Just came up on Craigslist. I really would love to buy this, but I just don't have enough wiggle room to pay 18k for my next car. It fits my needs very well and it covers a few of the want bases too. It's on bags, and APR stage II, makes about 270~ at the wheels (HP). Also it's a 6 speed manual... Bummer :(

If it's that Golf GTI in the pictures, to me, it's riding way to low for my taste and looks but that's just me. Of course, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. For that price however, it is a great car. :)

It's on air suspension, it can go higher than stock ride height, or down to this level when parked. There are generally 3 settings, cruising (tire flush with fender), parked (aired out completely like pictured), and stock.

Here's a good video about it:

That is fantastic! ya learn somthing new everyday. Now I want that GTI haha! I wonder if this could be done to a 944... I'd never do it of course!

You can do it to anything with suspension really. It's actually a little dream of mine to own a bagged dually to tow my motorcycle/car trailer to the track.

That certainly is a neat-looking truck! I'm learning so much here on Oppo and it's only been less than a day since I posted my first anything on here! I love it! :D

Actually, this could be very useful in the winter here in Michigan. I could raise the body to a height where I can reduce my chances of snow and excessive salt causing corrosion on the underbody! How expensive would something like this be?

They stated in the movie, under 5k for that setup, with three settings, and 5" adjustability. Albeit, that's for the S4, but there's a ton of companies that do airbag suspension. I'd look for a more performance based company than an ebay store, unless something spectacular, or a lowrider store. The lowrider scene are willing to sacrifice performance for appearance, typically, and I dunno if those airbag setups would do well with everyday driving, or performance.

Note: This is coming from someone with minimal knowledge of airbags. I've idly considered either airbags or hydraulics on my cars, but more in the Dauer 962 fashion than a lowrider.

I hate to be that guy... but build, don't buy. I understand the allure of getting a car that is already setup but I don't like inheriting someone else's mess. However, it looks pretty cool.

Well this looks like a possible upgrade I'd do in the future when I get a high-paying job. Until then, is there an innate ability to either raise or lower the body of a 944? or just any car in general?

Looks good, but a whole lotta nope. If you want a performance car, get something that was built as one, not something that was made into one.

That's good cautionary advice. Everyday driving on these bagged vehicles might be tricky. Your airbag suspension equals your spring rate. Ride height comes at the price of suspension compliance. The exception being when you're slammed to your bumpstops.

Also, most air conversions make for horrible handling. There are a few companies, such as Air Lift Performance , that make quality kits with good performance, but almost all conversions out there ride and handle like shit.

I see. So is there just a way to adjust ride height for the winter so the 944 doesn't catch to much salt? If at all?

adjustable coilovers... I have them on the front of the Seven, and am looking for rear miata coilovers for the back. there are two wrenches that allow you to compress and release the springs. I have it about 4" or so, but can go down to about 2", I forget.

Actually yes. I know someone (kind of a douch), and one of his facebook posts led me to Umbrella Auto Design . I kind of trolled them because they spelled "diffuser" as "diffusor," and they got super pissed. However, their product still looks solid. It's basically an airbag on top of the shock that stays deflated until you need it, and then inflates when needed (IE speed bumps or snow). Thus, when lowered, it doesn't really affect anything. I'm not sure how it acts when inflated, because they refused to answer my questions after I trolled them, but if it's super stiff it still probably wouldn't affect anything. That, however, assumes they think things through that far, and looking at the guys that run the company, I doubt they did. All they care about is aesthetics. Thus, it's probably thinner rubber, which is more easy to package and manufacture, but also would cause it to mess with the suspension feel somewhat. It wouldn't be too detrimental, though.

edit: Honestly, if you had the money, though, I would go for the Air Lift Performance product. They are actually supposed to be really good, and simpler is better.

edit mk.II: Also, Steyr raises a good point. If you get coilovers and are willing to do a little wrenching at the start and end of winter, they would do you fine. Performance air suspension would be super-rad though, because even I must admit cars look good hard-parked sometimes.

You would have to cut into the bed a lot to do that, but I do get a boner over lowered trucks. If that doesn't matter to you (IE no flat loading lumber, no 5th wheel, etc.), and it wouldn't too me, then awesome.

However, I never liked the Ram's styling (except in 7th grade, I loved them in 7th grade, enough so so that it's the only thing I remember about 7th grade), mostly because I think the curvy lines look bulbous, and I think lowering it emphasizes that even more. Honestly, I think an F-450 would look best slammed, but a Silverado would come close, and I am a Ford man, so there may be a little bias in play.

That seems to be exactly what I'm talking about! How much is it to do this? If anything.

Edit: I'm actually referring to the adjustable coilovers. And I don't mind the ram. It certainly isn't my favorite truck, but then again, I have yet to find a truck that I genuinely enjoy talking about. The closest one would be an SVT Raptor.

I know what it is, but that still doesn't fit what I meant. Was thinking RWD or AWD at least. Think of all the awesome you can buy for $18k! That's where my mind was at.

Adjustable coilovers for the Seven's front end were about 450-ish for the set of two. Figure 1-2k realistically for decent stuff. I don't know about trucks, they may be more expensive, as they are larger with longer travel.

Edit: I forgot trucks have leaf springs in the back... adjustability is going to be limited there, methinks.

I know the owner, it's not really a mess. And I'm completely sick of building any thing right now. I don't have the time, and luckily this is lightly modified.

I had a 400+ hp E30 for a long time. I'd like something that is more reliable, and less of a bitch to drive. FWD is growing on me. I used to hate hate hate it but ever since the new Focus ST came out it has grown on me.

Kinja'd!!! NinetyQ > E30Joe drives a Subaru

True, I don't mind FWD. Just not as a performance platform, personally. I have a FWD daily and my Audi 90 Quattro 20V as a toy/project/daily-in-a-pinch.

Personally, I'd probably just buy something with sufficient stock power and suspension rather than modify it, but that's just me. I understand the other side's need to change things.
